When Titus Took The Train - Anne Cottringer - Picture BooksCategory: Books Description: Titus is going on a long train journey. Under the watchful eye of the train guard he takes his seat and, until he arrives at his destination where Uncle Henry is waiting to meet him, he doesn't leave it. Or does he? Is it the curly moustache of a fellow passenger that is the impetus for Titus' fisticuff fight with bandits on the train roof? Or the sharp metallic teeth of the guard's ticket-puncher that propels him into a dangerous tunnel encounter with a T-rex? Is it the fact that the train makes a routine stop on a viaduct that sends Titus spinning into a daredevil parachute jump to find a mechanic and fix the stricken engine? Or is it the announcement that 'Boulder City' is the next stop that creates an avalanche of activity where Titus saves the train from a catastrophic collision with falling rocks? Readers will be swept along by these acts of derring-do and will be left wondering whether they really did happen or whether they're all part of the wild parallel universe that is Titus's imagination. On The Slow Train - Michael Williams - Trains and Railways: General InterestCategory: Books Description: This beautifully-packaged book will take the reader on the slow train to another era when travel meant more than hurrying from one place to the next, the journey meaning nothing but time lost in crowded carriages, condemned by broken timetables. On the Slow Train will reconnect with that long-missed need to lift our heads from the daily grind and reflect that there are still places in Britain where we can stop and stare. It will tap into many things: a love of railways, a love of history, a love of nostalgia. This book will be a paean to another age before milk churns, porters and cats on seats were replaced by security announcements and Burger King. These 12 spectacular journeys will help free us from what Baudelaire denounced as 'the horrible burden of time.' This title is updated for the paperback. Last Call For The Dining Car - Michael Kerr - Travel WritingCategory: Books Description: Ever since Paul Theroux first embarked in London on the first train of his Great Railway Bazaar, railways have been a rich source for the best travel writing. These days, with our awareness of the global warming implications of endless air travel and the opportunity to jump on a train at magnificent St Pancras and be whisked straight to the continent, train travel has assumed a new importance and romance - which is why so many more tour companies are offering a great train ride as part of their holiday itineraries. Now, Michael Kerr, the Telegraph's deputy Travel Editor, has burrowed deep in the newspaper's archives and collected together the very best of its writing about railway journeys. Here are journeys non-stop from London to Vladivostok; across the Canadian Rockies; the first train across Australia from Darwin to Alice Springs; on the teeming, crawling, travelling adventure of Indian railways. But there is also the Duke of Windsor haughtily washing his hands of train travel for ever after being held up by a signal failure on the Southern region; the very last day of steam travel on British Rail in 1967, and John Betjeman's paean to the glory of old-time train travel. This is an anthology that will appeal to the railway buff and the armchair traveller alike; to everyone who has ever Inter-railed in their youth, and everyone nostalgic for the days when the only way to cross a continent was by train. Michael Kerr is Deputy Travel Editor of the Daily Telegraph. He lives in Surrey. Delivery time: 1 to 3 days Delivery cost: 1.95 Author: 0 Review this product |

This review is from: Stop That Train!: A Pop-through-the-slot book (Hardcover)
We purchased this book after receiving 2 similar books for Xmas. The concept is great as my 2yr old gets to take the train on the journey through the book. As you push the trains through the slots, we also see if we can spot the motorbike that is chasing the train.Similar books that follow this concept are Moles bedtime and Ladybird moves home. Both these are excellent and if honest preferred by my 2yr old as they are aimed at slightly younger readers. All in all great idea, just wished there were more of them about.
