Great cookbook, well illustrated, easy to follow., By

Like most DK books this huge volume is wonderfully illustrated with loads of photo's many showing step by step recipes. Really well laid out in clear sections, I have used the book many times now with much success. I class this book as a proper cook book for using rather than impressing on the bookshelf. One small niggle is that there appears to be a few typo's and missing lines on some recipes, I have found two that don't make any sence, one with a title containing ingredients patently not in the recipe and one that appears to have omitted a line on cooking time and method! Hopefully there aren't more in the book! If it wasn't for these I would have given it a five star review. Currently Amazon seems to be the best value, DK and WH Smith are charging full RRP, although the Book People did do an offer in August 2009 but no longer list it or have in stock.In summary a great book for cooks with basic to reasonable skills, well illustrated but watch for the typo's!

I love cooking and have many cookery books. I recently bought this one and I am very impressed with every recipe I have tried so far. It is obviously written by someone who has a real flair for putting together ingredients to create exquisite flavours. I would highly recommend you to buy, even if you think you already have too many cookery books!!!

I love this book. Great visuals and easy to cook recipes. Has everything I need from quick recipes to cook three hungry children to lovely entertaining dishes. Definintely my food bible as I always find something ot inspire me and love the fact that I haven't got bored with it yet.

Rudolf Ditzen was a magistrate's son, raised in Berlin and immersed in Dickens, Flaubert and Dostoevsky. He became one of the greatest German authors of the 20th century, but was not translated into English until 2009.

 Some people are very easy to interview. Norton Juster is not one of them. He's delightful and articulate, but listening to the recording of our time together, it's striking how much more interesting his answers are than my questions. So our conversation entirely failed to resolve classics such as "Where did the idea for your book come from?" and ended up instead about vocational education, bipolar disorder, obscure Edwardian ghost-story writers, C P Snow, synaesthesia and the walks Juster used to take with his older brother. In some respects, it's hardly surprising; Juster has been giving interviews about his children's classic The Phantom Tollbooth for half a century, so might be forgiven for wanting his conversations to roam elsewhere.
