5.0 out of 5 stars Title says it all., 23 Aug 2009
By
Katie Howe (Manchester UK) - See all my reviews
Well the title says it all...
Prince Jasim Bin Hamid Al Rais seduces his nieces nanny Elinor Tempest because he thinks she's a gold digger who has her sights set on the child's father (his brother). Surprise, surprise, she's a virgin and even more amazingly she gets pregnant. Cue one wedding.
Of course, none of us read Mills and Boon for the originality of the plots. Once you've worked out it's 'boy meets girl' you've pretty much summed them all up. Ater that, it all boils down to characterization, dialogue and passion. Lynne Graham knows how to do all three and she does them extremely well. She's also very good with a trilogy and this is the first novel in a new set. Personally I can't wait for the others.
I must admit that it took me awhile to warm to the characters. There's a lot going on in this novel and some of it really didn't have to be there. For me, the book didn't really get going until Jasim realises that he's totally wrong about Elinor. She, on the other... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Pride, passion and a pregnancy - Hot desert romance!, 13 Jan 2010
By
Marilyn Shoemaker (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
There's something quite powerful about a tall dark and handsome desert prince who knows what he wants and never lets anything stand in his way. That's just one of the things that make Sheikh Jasim in Lynne Graham's Desert Prince, Bride of Innocence so unforgettable. It is the first book in her Pregnant Brides series.

Have you ever known deep within your heart that a couple should definitely belong together? That's how I felt about the very sexy Prince Jasim and the lovely titan Englishwoman, Elinor who was his brother Murad's nanny. This proud sheikh thinks he's doing his sister-in-law a favor by luring the nanny into a sexual relationship which leads to her having to leave their employ. Jasim believes again, his brother has shown bad judgment when it comes to the lovely young woman and is sure his brother will cause another family scandal. What he and his brother's wife don't know is that at one time Elinor's mother and Murad loved each other and that the man was only... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing for Lynne Graham, 29 Dec 2009
Lynne Graham is the best Mills and Boon author in my view - her stories are witty with interesting characterisations. I dont expect much of Mills and Boons but it is nice to have some semblance of a plot and characters whose relationship develops convincingly. This one is rather lame compared to Lynne Graham's usual standards - the heroine comes across as a dimbo and the hero is just unpleasant and seems to have nothing to recommend him but his looks and wealth. He misjudges her throughout - which she seems to tolerate after he finds her after her initial flounce when she realises he has misjudged her. And then he seems to do a complete turn at the end on the basis of some circumstantial evidence which might never have materialised. Entirely unconvincing in terms of plot or character and I found I did not really care about either character as I found them entirely unbelievable.

Under 10% of self-published authors earn a living from their writing
Self-published writers who have an agent, or who use the DIY route to get a traditional deal, earn much more than the average self-published writer, according to a survey of more than 1,000 self-published writers (72% USA, 9% UK). But less than 10% make enough to live off their earnings.

Despite the relatively low earnings, the survey found that there had been an and#147;explosionand#148; in the number of titles being self-published; 53% of the respondents self-published for the first time in 2011, with 20% making their dand#233;but in 2010.

Popular authors increase output, some doubling to two books a year, to meet insatiable ebook demand
Pity the poor authors in the days of the ebook. Whereas popular authors such as Lisa Scottoline used to produce one book a year, now they are writing two; while others such as Lee Child are churning out short stories in between novels in an attempt to satisfy their fans' demands for more output, lest the fans get bored waiting for the next work and go off and find a new favorite. Meanwhile, James Patterson is producing a dozen or more books each year, about half of which are co-written.

All this at the same time as the internet has changed readers' expectations that they'll be able to hear personally from their favorite authors via blogs, Twitter and Facebook updates.

Would reclusive authors such as J.D. Salinger and Harper Lee be able to gain traction in today's market? Many publishers say no - that what once would have created an aura of intrigue around an author, is not a viable option in the age of interconnectivity.
