Review: Dragon Gold is another fun book from Welsh children's publisher Firefly Press. It's great for fans of dragons and fantasy, and tells the story of what it would be like to own a real live baby dragon! Harri never wins anything at school, even if it's something as easy as a costume contest. His friend Ryan and his dad always manage to better everyone, that is until one day when Harri's teacher challenges the class to make a dragon and fly it for longer than ten seconds. Harri has the upperhand this time, thanks to a quiet old lady and an egg that looks suspiciously like that of a dragon! Dragon Gold is set in Wales, a place I'll admit to having never visited and having very little knowledge of, and features a few really cool Welsh legends that I'd never heard before. It takes pride in the iconic Welsh dragon, making it the focal point for Ryan's story and bringing it to life for everyone to meet. I loved little Tân and his fire breathing ways - I've always wanted a real dragon and now I want one even more! This book shows children that it's ok to lose contests, it's the competing and trying that counts. It shows that friendships are more important than any prize, and that, at the end of the day, you can only do your best. I hope there will be more adventures for Harri and Tân in the future - maybe there'll even be a dragon friend for him, who knows. Until then, I'll be watching the skies for any signs of fire!
