Ford Tractors

Category: Bicycles
Description: Beginning with the development of the first Ford tractors in 1917 and finishing in 1991 with the purchase of the Ford tractor brand by New Holland, this is one of the few books to tell the complete story of Ford and Fordson tractors. The author covers the parallel development of Fordson tractors, made at Dagenham in Essex, with Ford tractors in the United States. The first Ford tractor was produced in 1917 to help with war agricultural production and the Fordson Model N played a key role in the development of British agriculture up to 1945. The Ford Major was launched in 1945, marking the first factory fitting of a diesel engine in a Ford tractor. The book also covers the smaller Dexta models and the ground-breaking 1000 series. The 10, 30 and 70 series tractors incorporated a host of technological developments that would not only see the Ford tractor through to 1991 but also leave a legacy that is still appreciated today.

Magnify The Ford Capri Story
The Ford Capri Story

The Ford Capri Story

Category: Bicycles
Description: Before the Ford Capri arrived in 1969, GT cars had tended to be expensive, temperamental, impractical and rarefied. Ford decided there was no reason why a four-seater coupe couldn't look stunning and go like a rocket (with the right engine) yet be as easy and cheap to run as a Ford Escort. Little wonder that the slogan they used in 1969 to launch it, ' The car you always promised yourself', made an immediate impact. The Capri was a hit from day one, and continued to be a British favourite until 1986, at which time it had been somewhat overshadowed by the emergence of the Hot Hatchback. Over its lifetime, the Capri was available in a vast array of guises over three distinct ' Marks', but all of them had at their heart affordable fun and a surprising degree of everyday practicality. Nothing has ever quite replaced it, but it lives on in the fond imagination of everyone who loved it.

The Cleveland Way And The Yorkshire Wolds Way

Category: Books
Description: Guidebook to the Cleveland Way and Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trails, plus the Tabular Hills Walk link route. The guidebook also contains a 1:25,000 scale OS route map booklet of the Cleveland Way. The Cleveland Way National Trail, described in seven day stages, is a fine 177km (110 miles) walk around the North York Moors National Park from Helmsley to Filey. The Yorkshire Wolds Way is one of the quietest of Britain's National Trails and wanders for 130km (80 miles) through gentle, cultivated and sparsely populated countryside. Described here in nine day stages, from Hessle near Redcar to Filey, it links end-to-end with the Cleveland Way on the coast. Also described is the three-day, 80km (50 mile) Tabular Hills Walk, a Regional Trail that allows walkers to close the loop of the Cleveland Way and transform it into an enormous circular walk. The guidebook comes with a separate map booklet of 1:25,000 scale OS maps showing the full route of the Cleveland Way. The clear step-by-step route description links together with the map booklet at each stage along the Way, and the compact format is conveniently sized for slipping into a jacket pocket or the top of a rucksack.

The Last Juror

Category: Detective Novels
Description: In 1970, The Ford County Times, one of Mississipi's more colourful weekly newspapers, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by 23-year-old college drop-out, Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgittt family. Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper. The murderer, Danny Padgitt, was tried before a packed courtroom in Clanton, Mississippi. The trial came to a startling, dramatic end when the defendant threatened revenge against the jurors if they convicted him. Nevertheless, they found him guilty, and he was sentenced to life in prison. But in Mississippi in 1970 'life' didn't necessarily mean 'life', and nine years later Danny Padgitt managed to get himself paroled. He returned to Ford County, and the retribution began.
