Review: I bought 4 copies of this for gardening friends as so many small things are turned upside down

Review: I guess there has to be money in writing what people want to hear. In this case, that being lazy in the garden is actually a better way to grow vegetables than hard work, and so a Good Thing After All. This book puts forward the idea that not bothering to dig your garden, just chucking a blanket of several INCHES of expensive mulches on top of the whole thing every year is the way to go (he doesn't explain what happens after 30 years... presumably your garden is now level with your upstairs windows...) Personally I don't believe him. That's why I'm so exhausted right now from double digging heavy clay that hasn't been dug in 50 years...

Packed with easy-to-follow advice, Organic Gardening reveals the art of the no-dig approach and the techniques required to grow organic crops while enhancing soil structure. • Waterstones The Science of Gardening

    Price: £20.00

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Exploding myths and offering research-backed advice, this book provides a shortcut to decades of gardening experience by explaining the science behind how a garden grows. Why does my cherry tree blossom but never fruit? What's the most effective slug deterrent? Could I breed my own unique variety of flower? The world of gardening can be a mystifying place, with so many instructions to follow and often little explanation as to why. From hands-on advice to an exploration of the mental health benefits of gardening, and the positive impact gardening can have during a climate crisis, The Science of Gardening debunks myths, and reveals the latest science only taught at horticultural college. As a passionate newcomer to gardening, daunted by the mountain of often conflicting advice in gardening manuals, Dr Stu has set about testing the scientific basis of conventional wisdom so you too can garden like a pro.
