Review: My low-carb Bible. I love the recipes.

Review: The first recipe in this book is a blackberry compote made with 100g sugar! They get the carb content down to 14g per portion by dividing it into 10! So my initial impression was not good. However, there are some reasonable recipes if you are not being strictly low carb (10-15g carb per portion). I guess this would be Atkins maintenance. I consider myself a bit of an expert because I have lost 8 stone and controlled my diabetes by low carbing. Certainly these recipes would have been out of the question when I was consuming about 40g carb per day. But now I can get away with a bit more, I can use this book, and indeed some of the recipes look delicious. There is a rash of low carb cookbooks out at the moment, written in haste, I suspect, to jump on the bandwagon. It is obvious that the writers don't understand what true low carbing is all about. George Stella is the only one that comes close and he has actually solved his own weight problem by low carbing. He is too American, however, for my food tastes. What we need are British aimed low carb cookbooks with recipes containing 5-10g carb per portion, reasonable sized portions and recipes aimed at 2-4 servings. Don't tell me to buy a tub of yogurt for a recipe, use a tablespoonful, chuck the rest away and divide the portions into 8! This is a useful book for maintenance only.
