Description: Lola Nox is the daughter of a celebrated horror filmmaker - she thinks nothing can scare her. But when her father is brutally attacked in their New York apartment, she's swiftly packed off to live with a grandmother she's never met in Harrow Lake, the eerie town where her father's most iconic horror movie was shot. The locals are weirdly obsessed with the film that put their town on the map - and there are strange disappearances, which the police seem determined to explain away. And there's someone - or something - stalking Lola's every move. The more she discovers about the town, the more terrifying it becomes. Because Lola's got secrets of her own. And if she can't find a way out of Harrow Lake, they might just be the death of her.

Review: An absolute fave! If you’ve not checked this book out I highly recommend! After an accident with Lola’s Father she is sent to live with her estranged Grandmother in Harrow Lake which is famous for a film directed by her Father. The Nightjar which starred Lola’s mother, who went missing years before, has a cult following and is celebrated in the town every year. Something is off in Harrow Lake. Why is there a teeth tree? What are all these jitter bugs? And who or what is Mr Jitters? ???? Creepy Small Town Setting Atmospheric Claustrophobic Unsettling Mystery Creepy Woods Psychological Horror Spine Tingling Creepy Mister Jitters 80s/90s Horror Feel ”It’s this place, this town where time doesn’t move forward like it’s supposed to. Where stories get stuck in your head like a tooth burrowed deep in your flesh. I feel like Harrow Lake is working its way inside me”

Review: I loved the premise and the cover for this title. There was a lot of hype and I was intrigued and excited to see if it delivered. It does and it doesn’t. I did absolutely race through this, it is creepy and unsettling, and it does have a fantastic setting and atmosphere. But there were a lot of unresolved plot points which I found frustrating and I was disappointed that one of the reveals and plot twists (spoiler) was to do with a child being sexually abused, again. I just feel that it shouldn’t be used in this way in YA fiction and that it’s a lazy and unoriginal way to explain a dark family secret. I do love this genre and would still read another title by this author - this book is compelling and I’m interested to see what the author does next.
