Review: Wasn't sure I'd like this colouring book but have to say it's become my favourite book by far. I love lots of little things to colour rather than massive areas and this book fits my requirements with lovely pictures. Well worth the money.

Review: I'm really sad to say it's only 'okay' as I love Enchanted Forest and Secret Garden, however Lost Ocean falls a little short for me for just a few reasons. 1) The paper is flimsier than the previous books and bright white, it has lost that lovely thick rustic feel that set her previous books ahead of all of the other colouring books on the market. The paper isn't as high quality I don't think, and the book no longer feels like part of a series. I think it was a mistake to change the paper type, EF and SG felt warm and cosy, rustic and charming, whereas Lost Ocean just feels cold and clinical in comparison. It's not the end of the world but it's a shame that it doesn't follow on from the series so far. 2) The pictures seem to be ordered a little strangely: one of the coolest things about the previous books was that the first two pages were a double paged spread, they kind of set the scene for the rest of the book, and were intricate and details and exciting to colour in, giving hints of what was to come. But in Lost Ocean the very first image is just a circular picture, so is the second. The pictures are fine but I miss opening the first page and seeing a double page! It doesn't feel like the start of a journey if that makes sense. 3) The final huge picture doesn't really seem to follow on from the story! In Enchanted Forest you feel as though you've earned opening this castle door by finding all of the symbols carved into stone, leading you to enter the castle and find huge dragons. But in Lost Ocean it doesn't really seem like the final spread is related to anything you've been working towards, there's no fanfare before opening it, it just seems like a token gesture. I thought it might be something like a huge octopus locked inside an underwater cave or some gems inside a castle in Atlanta or something, but it was just blah. However... I gave the book three stars because if taken alone, it's a perfectly good colouring book. I think it's just taking a hit in reviews because it isn't as special as Basford's previous two wildly successful books, she has set such a high standard and this book has lost some of the magic. But it's still a great book, I think it'll be enjoyable to colour. I tend to work through her books in order but I'm put off beginning this one because I just can't be bothered to colour in another circular page when I was so excited about a double page spread! I realise these all sound hilariously nitpicky but those are my thoughts. It has fallen short of my expectations but that's not to say it isn't adequate for what it is. For the price, it will provide probably hundreds of hours worth of colouring.
