Description: From Raymond Briggs, the beloved and bestselling author of The Snowman, comes his first book in a decade, now in an updated edition with new columns and illustrations. Notes from the Sofa is a beautifully illustrated compilation of reflections on life and what it means to get older. Raymond dips into his past to remind us of scrumping apples, National Service, party lines on telephones, the torment of cinema organs and the endless obsession with laxatives, alongside his take on the absurdities of the modern world. This collection gives us warm and memorable sketches of Raymond's life now and reminds us why he is one of our best-loved storytellers. Review: I, like many others, love Raymond Brigg's work. This book is a collection of articles he wrote on the subject of getting old, getting forgetful, suffering the injuries that crisps can give you and so on. Raymonds sense of humour shines out and you realise the character Father Christmas he drew and wrote is really Raymond with these articles. Its a joy to pick up and read a couple on the tube, bus, in a cafe wherever you are. Guaranteed to make you smile.

Review: This is a great subject and Raymond Briggs does it very nicely but, the paperback appears to be a cheap option. The paper is thin and the illustrations are all black and white. If you want a quality copy of this book, buy the hardback version and not the paperback

Description: For many of us, our sofa is our favourite piece of furniture. But nowadays, with living space increasingly limited, our sofa often plays more than one role in the home. It becomes a decorative centrepiece, allowing us to put our own stamp on our living space; it may extend a child's play area or double up as a bed. As a result, we have become demanding about every aspect of design. We expect multifunctionality, originality in form, and materials that are practical and long-lasting. This generously illustrated volume celebrates the creativity of more than 160 designers and brings together the very best in sofa design from the 20th and 21st centuries. As well as design icons by the likes of Josef Hoffmann, Eileen Gray, Le Corbusier and Arne Jacobsen, it showcases the most inventive creations of recent years from designers who continue to redefine and expand this field of design. With profiles arranged alphabetically by designer, the book comes complete with practical advice on buying a sofa and styling a living space, and includes a timeline of sofa design. Description: A story with great heart, and wisdom, which shows the healing power of true friendship' Ele Fountain, author of Boy 87. Written with humour and heart, Sofa Surfer looks at what it means to be homeless. Malcolm Duffy's debut novel Me Mam. Me Dad. Me., about domestic violence, won the YA category of the Sheffield Children's Book Award 2019, the Redbridge Children's Book Award 2019, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Prize 2019 and selected for World Book Night. 15-year-old Tyler's teenage angst turns to outright rebellion when his family leave London for a new life in Yorkshire. He's angry with his parents about the upheaval and furious at losing his home. With only the dog to confide in, Tyler has no idea that a chance meeting with a skinny girl called Spider will lead him into a world he never even knew existed. Spider is sofa surfing and Tyler finds himself spinning a tangled web of lies in his efforts to help her escape her world of fear and insecurity. Sofa Surfer shows how empathy and action can help those without a home to go to. As with his widely praised debut Me Mam. Me Dad. Me., Malcolm Duffy finds humour and heart even in dire situations. Relevant, warm and rewarding Sofa Surfer is about what happens when going home isn't an option.

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: The quirkiness of the illustrations and the simple narrative will delight readers, young and old, as they see how embracing differences and working together can have positive outcomes. This is a book which will be read again and again and enjoyed by all. - IBBY UK' This is a stylish picturebook with themes of compromise and friendship. -- Books for Keeps' From the witty title, to the delightful endpapers, The Pocket Chaotic is a charming story about becoming independent and growing up.' -- Mr. Alex's Bookshelf Alan and Betram are next-door neighbours. They are also best friends. They are also very, very different to one another. Bertram is extremely neat, and Alan is wildly messy. When Bertram gets a cat, called Pierre, he is dismayed to find that Pierre prefers it at Alan's house. Alan tries to help his friend out - giving him his old sheepskin coat, his chipped bowl and finally, his beat up old sofa. At last, Pierre and Bertram are happy, but Alan is not - he has no company and no sofa. Fortunately, Bertram comes up with a brilliant solution to the problem. The Problem With Pierre plays with the format of the book, splitting each spread down the middle - the page on the left is Bertam's neat-as-a-pin living room, and the right hand page is Alan's homely chaos. When, at the end, Bertram knocks through the wall between the two houses, and puts the sofa in the middle, there is a coming together of content and format that is sure to delight readers young and old.
