Review: I pre-ordered this book in the paper format, which (judging by the tracking) Amazon sourced from Germany to fulfil the pre-order, so thanks to Amazon for doing this as I don't think you can get the paper version in the UK at present. The book is aimed at those starting their sewing journey, so things like buttonholes and zips are avoided. In pandemic times this has the advantage of not having to source matching buttons and zips, so makes getting everything together much easier. There are a good selection of patterns for woven and knit fabrics, 4 tops/dresses, a skirt, joggers/shorts, a cardi and a wrap jacket. Unlike Itch to Stitch pdf patterns available online, different cup sizes are not included. I have made 3 items so far (Carlsbad cardigan, Mornington top and the Palermo top) and they all fit me fine with some ease. Experienced sewists with cup sizes of C/D may wish to consider an FBA on the Mornington top though. The patterns are printed on 4 sheets, with one on each side (8 patterns in total). This is good as it saves hunting through pattern sheets to find all the pieces you need. Inevitably the pattern lines overlap, which isn't a problem for most of the designs, but the page for the Fortuna joggers does look 'busy' and could be a bit confusing. The same colours and line styles are used to identify the different sizes as Itch to Stitch use in their pdf patterns, which I found helpful. So, overall, a useful book for those new to sewing, but also worth considering for experienced sewists who are looking for straightforward makes.

Review: It's fab, but I've made a mistake. I thought I'd have access to the pdf patterns, but I don't. I have the paper ones, but do I have to buy the kindle version as well to use 5he.pdf versions. I know this is a question within a review, but I couldn't find where to ask a question in the listing (there's usually a 'customer questions' section. '

  • Waterstones Matthew Wong - Vincent van Gogh

    Price: £30.00

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: A beautifully illustrated exploration of the artistic and personal connections between Matthew Wong (1984-2019) and Vincent van Gogh. Shortly before his early death, the Chinese-Canadian artist Matthew Wong (1984-2019) emerged as a phenomenon. He started drawing and painting in 2011, at the age of 27, and within the space of just a few years had developed a highly personal style, using intense colours to paint imaginative landscapes. Wong's expressively lyrical works were inspired by both traditional Chinese painting and Western art. He was especially influenced by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), not only in terms of his painting style and choice of motifs, but also in some aspects of his life. Both artists were self-taught, acquiring their drawing and painting skills without tuition, and both faced mental health issues. Wong saw his own life reflected in that of Van Gogh, and once said: 'I see myself in him. The impossibility of belonging in this world.' Published to accompany the exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, this book explores the artistic and personal connection between the two artists, bringing around 45 paintings and drawings by Wong into dialogue with a group of Van Gogh masterpieces. Kenny Schachter, who knew Matthew Wong, contributes a personal introduction, which is followed by essays exploring the artists' biographical and artistic kinship. Description: Tea-shop owner. Matchmaker. Detective? Sixty-year-old self-proclaimed tea expert Vera Wong enjoys nothing more than sipping a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy 'detective' work on the internet (AKA checking up on her son to see if he's dating anybody yet). But when Vera wakes up one morning to find a dead man in the middle of her tea shop, it's going to take more than a strong Longjing to fix things. Knowing she'll do a better job than the police possibly could - because nobody sniffs out a wrongdoing quite like a suspicious Chinese mother with time on her hands - Vera decides it's down to her to catch the killer. Nobody spills the tea like this amateur sleuth. Waterstones Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers - shop the best deal online on thebookbug.co.uk
