A hundred years later, this book has become a self-empowerment classic. New World Library author and publisher Marc Allen updated this timeless gem, recasting obsolete language and polishing the author's message to highlight the universal principles of the original. Review: Marc Allen, despite his name, is no relation to James Allen (he is not his grandson or anything like that) - he says this himself in the introduction. However, Marc Allen is a great man and author in his own right and is very well-qualified by his own achievements to understand this classic. Marc re-wrote and re-titled it, so it reads better for modern-day people. The original version was called "As a Man Thinketh". Everyone who wants to be successful in life should read some version of this classic of classics on a regular basis (preferably daily). Marc re-named his re-worded version of the classic text "As You Think" so it could instantly appeal instantly to everyone regardless of gender. The title change sets the tone of the book as instead of saying "a man does this", "it says YOU do this" or "THEY do this"; in other words, Marc Allen's version use non-gender specific language. There was a version written to appeal to Women called "As a Woman Thinketh" - but Marc's version covers everyone. Note - I discovered the original "As a Man Thinketh" through a high recommendation: Bob Proctor, one of the greatest business and life coaches in the world encourages people high up in his company to write out daily the last chapter of "As a Man Thinketh" on Serenity so as to imbibe its life-changing principles and has stated that it is in the top 3 greatest books in success literature (Think and Grow Rich and You2 by Price Pritchard being the other 2). This is powerful stuff!

  • Waterstones The Gracie Allen Murder Case

    Price: £11.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Gracie Allen breaks the Philo Phormula in a number of ways. First is its title: this is the only book in the series to modify 'Murder Case" with more than one word, much less with the name of a character. And then there's that character: Gracie Allen was a very real, much-loved comedienne in the 1930s, famous for her double act with George Burns, and in fact the plot revolves around her. Gracie's centrality is no accident: Van Dine wrote the story as a vehicle for Allen, and actually created the novel only after the film had come out. So do all these departures pay off? We'd be lying if we said that Gracie hits every single mark, but Van Dine does a surprisingly entertaining job of translating Ms. Allen's delicious Ditzy Blonde persona to the page, and she makes a charming foil for Philo's evergreen erudition. • Waterstones Woody Allen

    Price: £29.95

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Woody Allen is a uniquely innovative performer, writer and director with nearly fifty movies to his credit, from cult slapstick films and romantic comedies to introspective character studies and crime thrillers. Classics such as Annie Hall, Manhattan, Stardust Memories, Broadway Danny Rose and Hannah and Her Sisters still resonate, and more recently Midnight in Paris and Blue Jasmine have been notable successes. In this timely retrospective, Tom Shone reviews Woody Allen's entire career, providing incisive commentary on his films and shedding light on this uniquely self-deprecating filmmaker, with the help of comments contributed by Allen himself. Superbly illustrated with more than 250 key images, this is a fitting tribute to one of the masters of modern cinema, published to mark Woody Allen's eightieth birthday.'I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying.' Woody Allen.
