Review: There are many blank pages in place the introduction and the first chapter. I really want a replacement... Otherwise, some important thoughts concerning conscious and unconscious psychic development in view of teleological progression rather than from the traditional causal perspective.

Description: The concept of 'Archteypes' and the hypothesis of 'A Collective Unconscious' are two of Jung's better known and most exciting ideas. In this volume - taken from the Collected Works and appearing in paperback for the first time - Jung describes and elaborates the two concepts. Three essays establish the theoretical basis which are then followed by essays on specific archetypes. The relation of these to the process of individuation is examined in the last section. The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious is one of Jung's central works. There are many illustrations in full colour.

Description: Jung on Astrology brings together C. G. Jung's thoughts on astrology in a single volume for the first time, significantly adding to our understanding of Jung's work. Jung's Collected Works, seminars, and letters contain numerous discussions of this ancient divinatory system, and Jung himself used astrological horoscopes as a diagnostic tool in his analytic practice. Understood in terms of his own psychology as a symbolic representation of the archetypes of the collective unconscious, Jung found in astrology a wealth of spiritual and psychological meaning and suggested it represents the sum of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity. The selections and editorial introductions by Safron Rossi and Keiron Le Grice address topics that were of critical importance to Jung | ??such as the archetypal symbolism in astrology, the precession of the equinoxes and astrological ages, astrology as a form of synchronicity and acausal correspondence, the qualitative nature of time, and the experience of astrological fate | ??allowing readers to assess astrology's place within the larger corpus of Jung's work and its value as a source of symbolic meaning for our time. The book will be of great interest to analytical psychologists, Jungian psychotherapists and academics and students of depth psychology, Jungian and post-Jungian studies, as well as to astrologers and therapists of other orientations, especially transpersonal.

Description: This is the essential fully illustrated biography of Carl Jung - one of the world's most influential thinkers and a founding father of psychology. It offers a unique insight into Jung's life and work, featuring generous excerpts from his writings and letters, and reveals Jung as seen by those who knew him best, including his friend and mentor Freud, his patients, and the two women in his life, Emma Jung and Toni Wolff. The words of Jung himself and those who shared his work and private life are connected by Claire Dunne's lively and accessible commentary. The evocative illustrations include colour reproductions of Jung's paintings and photographs of Jung and his associates, as well as superb artwork by other artists both ancient and contemporary that reflects Jung's teachings. Jung emerges as a healer whose skills arose from having first attended to the wounds in his own soul. Description: 'Every page is clear and interesting, taking one closer to understanding why Jung's thought was so profound. Examples, models and case histories are provided.' Economist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) left behind him a vast collection of valuable and original contributions to psychology; but because at first sight some of his ideas appear obscure, Jung has never been widely appreciated. His emphasis upon the spiritual aspects of human nature provides an important contrast with Freud's insistence upon the physical. This very clear exposition of Jung's 'analytical psychology' will convince a wide audience that Jung's ideas are not only comprehensible, but also have an especial relevance to the times we live in.

Description: Jung's discovery of the 'collective unconscious', a psychic inheritance common to all humankind, transformed the understanding of the self and the way we interpret the world. In On the Nature of the Psyche Jung describes this remarkable theory in his own words, and presents a masterly overview of his theories of the unconscious, and its relation to the conscious mind. Also contained in this collection is On Psychic Energy, where Jung defends his interpretation of the libido, a key factor in the breakdown of his relations with Freud. For anyone seeking to understand Jung's insights into the human mind, this volume is essential reading.

  • Waterstones Jung’s Studies in Astrology

    Price: £36.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Winner of the IAJS award for best authored book of 2018!C. G. Jung had a profound interest in and involvement with astrology, which he made clear in virtually every volume of the Collected Works, as well as in many of his letters. This ancient symbolic system was of primary importance in his understanding of the nature of time, the archetypes, synchronicity, and human fate. Jung's Studies in Astrology is an historical survey of his astrological work from the time he began to study the subject. It is based not only on his published writings, but also on the correspondence and documents found in his private archives, many of which have never previously seen the light of day. Liz Greene addresses with thoroughness and detailed scholarship the nature of Jung's involvement with astrology: the ancient, medieval, and modern sources he drew on, the individuals from whom he learned, his ideas about how and why it worked, its religious and philosophical implications, and its applications in the treatment of his patients as well as in his own self-understanding. Greene clearly demonstrates that any serious effort to understand the development of Jung's psychological theories, as well as the nature of his world-view, needs to involve a thorough exploration of his astrological work. This thorough investigation of a central theme in Jung's work will appeal to analytical psychologists and Jungian psychotherapists, students and academics of Jungian and post-Jungian theory, the history of psychology, archetypal thought, mythology and folklore, the history of New Age movements, esotericism, and psychological astrology. Description: C.G. Jung's ideas continue to be of interest to many readers. Murray Stein, a longtime Jungian therapist and author, provides readers with an accessible introduction to the essential Jungian ideas. A major challenge to anyone who is trying to understand Jung's thought is the piecemeal way in which Jung communicated his ideas over his 60-year career - the result was 18 volumes of dense, often repetitious, prose. Stein provides a unified, comprehensive summary of Jung's vision of psychological and spiritual life. Written in a user-friendly style with lively anecdotes and helpful examples that illustrate some of Jung's abstract ideas. This text covers: the collective unconscious; human consciousness and the structure of the ego; synchronicity; the complexes; shadow; psychic energy; self; persona; individuation; and anima/animus.
