Review: Book 4 in the Washington Poe series and another difficult case for Poe and Tilly. Although there are some ongoing storylines this would read well as a stand-alone, but why would you, it’s a brilliant series. Chapter 1 sees a group of men wearing James Bond masks breaking into a safety deposit box but it’s empty and they leave behind a dead body and an ornament. Meanwhile Poe and Tilly are in court fighting to stop the order to force Poe to give up his remote Cumbrian home. Poe’s boss, Flynn, is on maternity leave so is not seen much this time. Briefly, two anonymous men take Poe to Carlisle to investigate a murder in a brothel. But all is not as it seems and despite earlier concerns soon Poe and Tilly are on the case. Tilly connects the death to the ‘James Bond’ case three years earlier. Working with M15 and the FBI can this confusing case be resolved? The dynamic between the rather stubborn and determined Poe and the irrepressible and super intelligent Tilly just goes from strength to strength and, along with the wonderfully detailed and complex plots, are the mainstay of the series. Loved this as much as I did the previous books and I’m off to read book 5 now.

Review: I love it though. The relationships, the story lines, the laughter and the end result. Have read 4 of 5 now so on to the last one

Description: Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. Washington Poe has a story to tell. And he needs you to listen. You'll hear how it started with the robber birds. Crows. Dozens of them. Enough for a murder. He'll tell you about a man who was tied to a tree and stoned to death, a man who had tattooed himself with a code so obscure, even the gifted analyst Tilly Bradshaw struggled to break it. He'll tell you how the man's murder was connected to a tragedy that happened fifteen years earlier when a young girl massacred her entire family. And finally, he'll tell you about the mercy chair. And why people would rather kill themselves than talk about it. Poe hopes you've been paying attention. Because in this story, nothing is as it seems. Praise for M W Craven Washington Poe is a brilliant creation, from one of the finest and most inventive crime writers of today' Peter James' Mesmerising, macabre and magnificent. Description: Writer, producer, and director Wes Craven has successfully tapped into the horror vein for over forty years, serving up scary, funny, cutting-edge thrillers that have become classics in the genre. His films have been both critical and commercial successes, most notably Nightmare on Elm Street, which spawned a series of sequels and made Craven (and his creation, Freddy Kruger) an international sensation. He then created a second indelible series in the horror movie trope with Scream. In Screams & Nightmares, Brian J. Robb examines Craven's entire career, from his low-budget beginnings to his most recent box office hits, from the banned thriller The Last House on the Left and the cult classic The Hills Have Eyes to the outrageous Shocker and The People Under the Stairs. Through exclusive interviews with Craven, Robb provides in-depth accounts of the making of each of the films - including the final instalments of the Scream series - Craven's foray into writing novels, and his numerous television projects.
