Review: Found the geographical descriptions intriguing and pretty accurate throughout the first four books that I've read so far. The main thrust of her novels seems to focus on Porter's relationships with her Mother and sister then with her boyfriend at the expense of the thread of the novel's presumed target ,namely solving the puzzle of identifying the culprit/culprits . They're a good read if you're familiar with the Northern lake district and Ullswater in particular. Perhaps a bit tame graphically especially if you're used to the Rankin/Ellroy style. I do wonder how well Lynch really knows the operational organisation and methods of the Cumbria constabulary ,given that Porter only seems to relate to Manchester for more technical issues whereas in fact they're more likely to engage with Newcastle which is considerably closer to the Lake district. That said, having lived and worked in Watermillock myself I found them gripping and entertaining. They're more "Cosy crime" than "Gore and glory" in style. A refreshing series well written and structured.
