Review: I actually enjoyed this better than playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I think that's probably because my imagination created a better atmosphere. But yeah this is a good read, especially if your already into Deus Ex. One thing that kinda bugged me though is the author has a slightly annoying habit of over-describing things, which, although that should be a good thing, it ends up making you wait a couple of extra words to find out what he is actually trying to describe, which I found kinda annoying. Would be interesting if anybody else felt that. But still, great atmosphere, great narrative, great book!!!

Review: I'm a big fan of all things cyberpunk including the games of the same name but this was so poorly written, I wasn't even able to finish it.

    Price: £12.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Like firefighters in a world without fire, so humankind in the twenty-first century needs to ask itself an unprecedented question: what are we going to do with ourselves? In a healthy, prosperous and harmonious world, what will demand our attention and ingenuity? This question becomes doubly urgent given the immense new powers that biotechnology and information technology are providing us with. What will we do with all that power? During the twentieth century, humankind has managed to do the impossible: we have brought famine, plague and war under control. Today, more people die from obesity than from starvation; more people die from old age than from infectious diseases; and more people commit suicide than are killed in war. We are the only species in earth's long history that has single-handedly changed the entire planet, and we no longer expect any higher being to shape our destinies for us. As Homo sapiens becomes Homo deus, what new destinies will we set for ourselves? As the self-made gods of planet earth, which projects should we undertake, and how will we protect this fragile planet and humankind itself from our own destructive powers? In this vivid, challenging new book, Yuval Noah Harari examines the implications of our newly acquired divine powers, from our desperate pursuit of happiness to our dogged quest for immortality. He explores how Homo sapiens conquered the world, our current predicament and our possible futures. And, above all, he asks the fundamental questions: How do we avoid destruction, and what new world should we create? What do we want to become? A specialist in World History, military history and medieval history, Yuval Noah Harari is best known for his investigations into macro-historical questions concerning the relationship between history and science, the origins of mankind and its future. Amongst his publications are the bestselling books Sapiens and Homo Deus.

Description: The human mind is both brilliant and pathetic. We have mastered fire and have stood on the moon, and yet every one of us is fundamentally ignorant, irrational and prone to making simple mistakes every day. Why?' In The Knowledge Illusion, the cognitive scientists Steven Sloman and Philip Fernbach hammer another nail into the coffin of the rational individual. positing that not just rationality but the very idea of individual thinking is a myth.' - Yuval Harari, bestselling author of Sapiens and Homo Deus In this groundbreaking book, cognitive scientists Steven Sloman and Philip Fernbach show how our success as a species is down to us living in a rich community of knowledge where we are drawing on information and expertise outside our heads. • Waterstones I, Human

    Price: £19.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: For readers of Sapiens and Homo Deus and viewers of The Social Dilemma, psychologist Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic tackles one of the biggest questions facing our species: Will we use artificial intelligence to improve the way we work and live, or will we allow it to alienate us? It's no secret that AI is changing the way we live, work, love, and entertain ourselves. Dating apps are using AI to pick our potential partners. Retailers are using AI to predict our behavior and desires. Rogue actors are using AI to persuade us with bots and misinformation. Companies are using AI to hire us | ??or not. In I, Human psychologist Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic takes readers on an enthralling and eye-opening journey across the AI landscape. Though AI has the potential to change our lives for the better, he argues, AI is also worsening our bad tendencies, making us more distracted, selfish, biased, narcissistic, entitled, predictable, and impatient. It doesn't have to be this way. Filled with fascinating insights about human behavior and our complicated relationship with technology, I, Human will help us stand out and thrive when many of our decisions are being made for us. To do so, we'll need to double down on our curiosity, adaptability, and emotional intelligence while relying on the lost virtues of empathy, humility, and self-control. This is just the beginning. As AI becomes smarter and more humanlike, our societies, our economies, and our humanity will undergo the most dramatic changes we've seen since the Industrial Revolution. Some of these changes will enhance our species. Others may dehumanize us and make us more machinelike in our interactions with people. It's up to us to adapt and determine how we want to live and work. The choice is ours. What will we decide?.
