Review: I'm an aerospace engineer and pilot, and wanted to get a better idea on the non-technical side of drones. Drone Theory was an excellent choice. If you're interested in the philosophical and political implications of drone warfare (or anything in my summary of the ToC), this book is an excellent background guide. Chamayou provides clear arguments against the current use of drones by the US military. His writing style makes it easy to understand the complex system described without watering down his case. Summarized table of contents: Techniques and Tactics- Evolution of warfare and how drones became the weapon of choice Ethos and Psyche- Goes into great detail on military ethos Necroethics- Combatant immunity and picks apart argument on why drones are considered "humanitarian weapons" Principles of the Philosophy of the Right to Kill- Michael Walzer, jus ad bellum, François Laurent, Strawser, and legal framework of drone operations all covered in this brief but thorough section Political Bodies- haven't finished reading yet. will update upon completion

Review: We read this in our Reading Group. It was generally felt to be quite repetitive and written in a rather pompous style. Much of the content was interesting but really centred on 'are drone operators soldiers or assassins?' It covered the many historical and psychological ramifications stemming from this question. 2 out of 9 members really liked it and would recommend it to others. I would not, mainly because of the style and repetition.
