Description: The Fife Coastal Path runs around the coastline of eastern Scotland for 117 miles (187 km) from Kincardine on the Forth to Newburgh on the Tay. Starting west of the famous Forth bridges, the route heads through former mining towns towards the villages of Fife's East Neuk (corner), with their rich tradition of smuggling and fishing. After rounding Fife Ness, the route follows the coastline through St Andrews, golf capital of the world and former religious centre of Scotland. Fife has long played an important part in Scottish history and the route passes many castles, towers and churches. There are splendid views along the coast and over the Firths of Forth and Tay, with great chances to sight seabirds, seals and dolphins. The villages have welcoming pubs, famous fish-and-chip shops and good B& Bs. Transport by train and bus makes for easy access throughout. The guidebook contains everything you need to plan and enjoy your holiday on foot, or on a bike where cycling is appropriate - details of each section showing distance, side-trips and food/drink stops; background on history, landscapes and wildlife; planning information for travel by bus, train, car and plane; lavishly illustrated, with 100 colour photographs; and detailed mapping of the entire route at 1:45,000. This second edition contains many route updates and is in an even lighter, more pocketable format. The book is rugged and printed on rainproof paper.

  • Eventispress WALKING BORDERS

    Price: £11.99

    Brand: Eventispress

Description: During the summer of 2020, after Hamish had walked the entire Fife Coastal Path between Kincardine to Newburgh to write Exploring the Fife Coastal Path, a friend asked him what ploy would he come up with next. Being fascinated with boundaries, Hamish decided to attempt to walk the boundaries of Fife, also from Kincardine to Newburgh. Hamish walked through autumn days, following the natural features of hills, rivers, forests and paths and passing through Fife villages and towns, he zigzagged wherever the boundary took him. He met interesting folk and animals along the way, including dogs but also emus, alpaca and buffalo. He was undeterred by bogs and streams. This is not a guide book but one that shows Hamish's delight in the outdoors, his curiosity and above all his sense of humour. It is certainly a fine octogenarian's adventure. • Amberley Publishing Fife Buses From Alexanders (Fife) to Stagecoach

    Brand: Amberley Publishing

Description: Fife Scottish was established in the 1960s as part of the Scottish Bus Group, a state-owned company which operated bus services throughout Scotland. It operated buses throughout the Kingdom of Fife, serving towns such as Dunfermline, St Andrews, Glenrothes, Leven and Kirkcaldy, and did this with great success until privatisation came in the early 1990s. In this book, Walter Burt, himself a bus driver based in Fife, takes us through the different buses used in the Kingdom, starting in 1960 just before the Scottish Bus Group took over services and finishing just after privatisation, when Fife became part of the Stagecoach Group.
