Review: All works by Jung are Great this being no different. Jung breaks down his four major archtypes in this book Spirit, Mother, Trickster, and rebirth. Came as advertised and fast..no disappointments in this book. This book comes out of a series that is essentially Jung's infamous "Red Book" broken down into smaller works with all of the concepts in one easy to read binding, instead of all over the enormous Red Book. Hope that made sense like it did in my head, lol.

Review: The printing style (font theme) detracted somewhat. It looks like it was copied from somewhere else, probably the original. The print seemed to bleed a little into the paper.

Description: The concept of the archetype is crucial to Jung's radical interpretation of the human mind. Jung believed that every person partakes of a universal or collective unconscious that persists through generations. The origins of the concept can be traced to his very first publication in 1902 and it remained central to his thought throughout his life. As well as explaining the theoretical background behind the idea, in Four Archetypes Jung describes the four archetypes that he considers fundamental to the psychological make-up of every individual: mother, rebirth, spirit and trickster. Exploring their role in myth, fairytale and scripture, Jung engages the reader in discoveries that challenge and enlighten the ways we perceive ourselves and others.

Description: The concept of 'Archteypes' and the hypothesis of 'A Collective Unconscious' are two of Jung's better known and most exciting ideas. In this volume - taken from the Collected Works and appearing in paperback for the first time - Jung describes and elaborates the two concepts. Three essays establish the theoretical basis which are then followed by essays on specific archetypes. The relation of these to the process of individuation is examined in the last section. The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious is one of Jung's central works. There are many illustrations in full colour.

  • Waterstones Jung on Astrology

    Price: £39.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Jung on Astrology brings together C. G. Jung's thoughts on astrology in a single volume for the first time, significantly adding to our understanding of Jung's work. Jung's Collected Works, seminars, and letters contain numerous discussions of this ancient divinatory system, and Jung himself used astrological horoscopes as a diagnostic tool in his analytic practice. Understood in terms of his own psychology as a symbolic representation of the archetypes of the collective unconscious, Jung found in astrology a wealth of spiritual and psychological meaning and suggested it represents the sum of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity. The selections and editorial introductions by Safron Rossi and Keiron Le Grice address topics that were of critical importance to Jung | ??such as the archetypal symbolism in astrology, the precession of the equinoxes and astrological ages, astrology as a form of synchronicity and acausal correspondence, the qualitative nature of time, and the experience of astrological fate | ??allowing readers to assess astrology's place within the larger corpus of Jung's work and its value as a source of symbolic meaning for our time. The book will be of great interest to analytical psychologists, Jungian psychotherapists and academics and students of depth psychology, Jungian and post-Jungian studies, as well as to astrologers and therapists of other orientations, especially transpersonal.

Description: Psychotic contents, especially in paranoid cases, show close analogies with the type of dream that the primitive aptly calls a 'big dream'. Unlike ordinary dreams, such a dream is highly impressive, numinous, and its imagery frequently makes use of motifs analagous to or even identical with those of mythology. I call these structures archetypes because they function in a way similar to instinctual patterns of behaviour.' The importance of this volume of Jung's writings on psychosis can scarcely be overrated both in historical terms and for the understanding of Jung's psychology. It begins with his famous work, 'The Psychology of Dementia Praecox'. It was this work that established his reputation as a psychiatric investigator of the first rank and it was this work also that engaged Freud's interest and led to their eventual famous meeting. The research in this work contains the seed of his theoretica divergence form psychoanalysis. Following on from this are a further nine papers on psychopathology and schizophrenia revealing Jung's original thinking in this area and providing valuable insight into the development of his later concepts such as the archetypes and the collective unconscious. It offers a unique insight into Jung's life and work, featuring generous excerpts from his writings and letters, and reveals Jung as seen by those who knew him best, including his friend and mentor Freud, his patients, and the two women in his life, Emma Jung and Toni Wolff. The words of Jung himself and those who shared his work and private life are connected by Claire Dunne's lively and accessible commentary. The evocative illustrations include colour reproductions of Jung's paintings and photographs of Jung and his associates, as well as superb artwork by other artists both ancient and contemporary that reflects Jung's teachings. Description: 'Every page is clear and interesting, taking one closer to understanding why Jung's thought was so profound. Examples, models and case histories are provided.' Economist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) left behind him a vast collection of valuable and original contributions to psychology; but because at first sight some of his ideas appear obscure, Jung has never been widely appreciated. His emphasis upon the spiritual aspects of human nature provides an important contrast with Freud's insistence upon the physical. This very clear exposition of Jung's 'analytical psychology' will convince a wide audience that Jung's ideas are not only comprehensible, but also have an especial relevance to the times we live in.

  • Waterstones Jung’s Studies in Astrology

    Price: £36.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Winner of the IAJS award for best authored book of 2018!C. G. Jung had a profound interest in and involvement with astrology, which he made clear in virtually every volume of the Collected Works, as well as in many of his letters. This ancient symbolic system was of primary importance in his understanding of the nature of time, the archetypes, synchronicity, and human fate. Jung's Studies in Astrology is an historical survey of his astrological work from the time he began to study the subject. It is based not only on his published writings, but also on the correspondence and documents found in his private archives, many of which have never previously seen the light of day. Liz Greene addresses with thoroughness and detailed scholarship the nature of Jung's involvement with astrology: the ancient, medieval, and modern sources he drew on, the individuals from whom he learned, his ideas about how and why it worked, its religious and philosophical implications, and its applications in the treatment of his patients as well as in his own self-understanding. Greene clearly demonstrates that any serious effort to understand the development of Jung's psychological theories, as well as the nature of his world-view, needs to involve a thorough exploration of his astrological work. This thorough investigation of a central theme in Jung's work will appeal to analytical psychologists and Jungian psychotherapists, students and academics of Jungian and post-Jungian theory, the history of psychology, archetypal thought, mythology and folklore, the history of New Age movements, esotericism, and psychological astrology.
