Review: Our kids (9 and 10) really enjoyed this as bedtime reading - as other reviews have pointed out, it must be read aloud with all the voices. It's a sharp, energetic adventure with plenty to giggle at, some lovely inventive ideas and a wealth of Gothic literary references that whip by at speed. Children and adults can get a lot from it, even if the adults sometimes have to cough and pretend they really do understand some of the smart allusions to historic characters. The story completely involved us and had a satisfying ending so it's a pleasure to discover there are more in the series. Given that the book is beautifully bound and filled with beautiful (and funny) illustrations, this is well worth collecting. For World Book Day, my daughter decided she wanted to go to school as Ada Goth - what more praise could you wish for?
