Review: Objectively, I know that taking a week to read a book can in no way count as a slump - but while reading this book I felt like I was in a slump. It took me about 350 pages to start actually enjoying myself - which is disappointing because its not a bad book or a bad story, I just wasn't really feeling it for some unknown and very annoying reason. Well, part of the reason was that I really did not like Fenoglio, I didn't mind him in Inkheart but he became unbearably arrogant and kind of creepy in this book. I mean, as a man from the 'real world' I was disturbed by the fact that a 15 year-old girl being the King's lover did not bother him in the slightest. And him continuously refusing to see any of the characters of Inkheart as real people with real emotions made me so angry. Every time we came to one of his chapters I wanted to bash my head against the wall so that it might be over quicker. After around the halfway point I became much more invested in the new world the characters were living in. I really liked the Black Prince, I loved Dustfinger's chapters, I also liked the new setting and all the magic going on. I still love Mo - he is one of my faves and his relationship with Meggie was definitely one of my favourite parts of the first book, which I guess is another part of why it took me so long to get into Inkspell as they were separated until the last quarter of the book - although that did make the last quarter very enjoyable. I did really miss Elinor though, she didn't have many chapters at all which I am still sad about cause she is a legend. I feel like this review is pretty all over the place but that does accurately represent my feelings towards this book so I think I am just going to leave it like this tbh.
