Review: A fascinating story of an Anglo American lady who married an Italian aristocrat and together they restored a decayed agricultural eastate in Southern Tusacany. She set up a school to educate the children of the farm workers where some Jewish children were sheltered during the German occupation of Italy.A fine book.

Review: There was an interesting story hidden in this mundane, plodding book. Iris lived in exciting times and was part of the Florentine British/American expatriate 'colony' in Florence. Raised by an eccentric neurotic mother, an only child half American half English, she married an Italian Count and lived through the 2nd WW in Italy. But by that time I had given up on this book. It is written in the 'end then this happened and then that happened' style of biography, offering no insight into the subject not giving appropriate context. Worst of all, I have never purchased a book with so many typos! There were basic mistakes on just about every page. I think the proofreader was having a bad day as I suspect that no more than a day was spent on this part of the production of this book. And a decent copy-editor would not have gone amiss. This book is a poor effort.
