Review: When this first arrived I was a little disheartened as I realised it was American and therefore had comments about how the rest of the world use the metric system and metre is spelled meter throughout. However, it does actually work just as well here in UK - both metric and imperial are covered and in fact the benefits of metric are clearly promoted. The spelling variation is also adressed, so I simply explained that the book was American and therefore WE spell it the way the book says OTHERS spell it. Its a fun book that is good at introducing all manner of measurements - from weight to height to temperature to mass, from millimetres to miles. Far too much to take in on one sitting, but fun enough to return to again and again.

Review: Mathematically speaking, D. Schwartz' books could be improved by including deeper content. Having said that, they are much more interesting and educational than the "count the pretty pictures" (overcrowded) category of children's books intended to aid the development of number sense.
