Review: Book four in the series of paperbacks which collect issues of the comic 'Once and Future'. The story of a man called Duncan embracing his family legacy as a monster hunter, in a Britain where old stories become very real. None of which will make any sense if you've not read the first three volumes. So new readers should start with book one. Regular ones can read on. This contains issues nineteen to twenty four of the comic. It does use chapter pages to show where one ends and the next begins. This does contain violence and can be gory, so is better for grown ups. After the end of the third volume, the whole country is now in the otherworld. Where the monsters and the legends dwell. And Arthur doesn't get his own way either, as he has a rival to contend with. In the middle of all this, Bridgette, Duncan and Rose strive to find a way to set things right. There are still stories being told... Still as superb as ever. You do have to really work at it early on to get your head round a few things, but once you remember how this book handles old stories, you'll be fine. At the heart of it though is the relationship between the three main characters. Which remains superb. Bridgette is as wonderful as ever and her dialogue just delights every single time. Rose and Duncan could just get left in her wake by all of this, but it does let them have their moments also. And a few new supporting characters aren't forgotten about either. It's a great read watching how all this plays out, and the way it uses stories is really very clever indeed. I can but hint at it without spoilers. This sets up so much that seems it will become important it will leave you on tenterhooks as to what comes next. The artwork and colouring are also very eye catching. Some of Rose's expressions in particular really do catch the eye. There's a great moment of things going on in the background. And it just enhances the story so much. There's still a way to go at the end of this book. So roll on book five. There's a gallery of covers of the individual issues at the end of the volume. Another great entry in a superb and very entertaining series.
