Description: Taking place entirely on a single evening | ?? Friday 10 April 1970 | ??in a large Bogotá mansion, House of Fury tells a hair-raising story. Nacho Caiciedo, a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, lives with his wife Alma and their six grown daughters. The Caiciedos have planned an enormous celebration in their home. But before the party has even started, the family is shocked by two pieces of news: their teenage daughter Italia is pregnant, and Alma's prodigal brother Jesús is expected at any moment. Guests from all levels of Bogotá society arrive, two earthquakes strike, and the party descends into debauchery; Nacho, out in the city streets, searching for Italia, is kidnapped by a ragtag militia, and its troops eventually invade the party and bring more chaos. House of Fury begins as a black comedy and unravels into a grim portent of the conflict that would rage across Colombia for fifty years. As in Rosero's previous novels, House of Fury is an indelible, fantastical work that with its unforgettable characters and unflinching, poetic and humane voice, brings to light Colombia's violent history.

Description: Set in the waning days of the Dutch Golden Age, this enchanting, lush reimagining of The Little Mermaid is perfect for fans of Jesse Burton's The Miniaturist and Leigh Bardugo's The Familiar. The Dutch Republic, 1650. One fine spring day in Friesland, twenty-year-old Clara van Wieren is faced with an ill omen: a whale, beached and rotting in the noonday sun. But Clara doesn't believe in magic and superstition, and this portent is quickly dismissed when a proposal from a wealthy merchant arrives, promising Clara the freedom she seeks from her mother's overbearing rule. When her attempts at overseeing the household at the family's estate lead to her chance encounter with a young man with russet hair and sparkling eyes the color of the sea, she finds herself strangely drawn to him. As Clara grows closer to Maurits, she must choose between the steady, gentle life she has been raised for and the man who makes her blood sing. But Maurits isn't who he seems to be, and his secrets, once hidden beneath the waves, threaten to rise up and drown them both. And when an ancient bargain, forged in blood between the mythical people of the sea and the rulers of the land, begins to unravel, Clara finds herself at the heart of a deadly struggle for power. • LionWing Publishing Ltd Kedamono Opera TRPG

    Price: £35.99

    Brand: LionWing Publishing Ltd

Description: Kedamono Opera is a tabletop roleplaying game that revolves around a dark fairytale world. In this game, humans who are desperate and weak seek the help of powerful and immortal monsters. These monsters are only interested in consuming human souls and satisfying their own desires. The ultimate goal of Kedamono Opera is not to resolve matters efficiently nor to save humans, but to weave a beautiful tale, be it a tragedy or comedy, of your own making. The whimsical and mystical world of Kedamono Opera is yours to define. However, there are a few guidelines that must be followed. First, the kedamono, which are creatures that include beasts, monsters, and fables, must exist. For them to exist, the Dark Forest must be present in their world. Secondly, humans exist, and they all worship a single god, regardless of who that might be. Lastly, the time period and location should be appropriate for a fairy tale, which is roughly Middle-Age Europe. Beyond these guidelines, the way humans view kedamono (some with hope, others with fear) and how the world enhances your story is at the heart of what matters most in Kedamono Opera. In Kedamono Opera, players do not play the frail humans seeking aid but rather the kedamono themselves. Designed for 2-3 people, one person will take on the role of the gamemaster, the facilitator of the story, while the others pick from a list of kedamono, like classes or playbooks, each offering a unique set of tools to shape the story to come. Play as a fierce and vicious bear, a lonesome wolf, a sly spider, or even a shark. Each kedamono comes with highly evocative art from Nagabe of both the kedamono's true form and the person-shaped lure they use to speak to humans with. Although the game's mechanics are simple, they offer great depth due to the Portents system. Using skills or failing trials can apply phrases or sentences to a Kedamono, which *must come true* by the end of the story. Though the GM has final say over how a Portent can be enacted, players are encouraged to come up with unique ways to weave their Portents into the story--or to find ways to rid themselves of them.
