Review: First off, thanks to Kevin Gifford and Yen Press for making this (really high quality) translation possible! Very much enjoyed this one and am looking forward to the next! This book gave a lot more backstory and details on what's going on in the gang's universe, as you probably expect given what went down at the end of the last one. It starts out with deep dives into Olba and then Nord/Acieth's backstories, the latter of which got a little too steamy for some characters to handle... Satoshi then switches gears, focusing back on Maou and Emi's interaction (involving Chiho, Suzuno, Ashiya, etc... of course) bringing out some fantabulous comedy as well as truly heartfelt moments. After that we're treated to another sit-down with some of the surprise guests from the previous 2 books revealing more mysteries about the universe, alongside some even more surprising developments too! No big fight scene to end this one (well, there is a fight scene but it's more emotional than physically powerful) but lots o' cliffhangers. Can't wait to find out what's next!

Review: I absolutely love this series, the books are a joy to read and even when there isn't much happening the character interactions are more than enough to get you through. So, in this one there is no big scenes, there is some backstory given to explain the whole situation, some at the start of the book and you have to wait for the end of the book for the rest of the info dump. There is some backstory given to a character in the middle of the book too, but it doesn't do much to further the story unlike the other two info dumps / revelations, In between it is the day to day antics between Maou and Emi, and that would normally be fine if it wasn't that some character progression is discarded and Maou acts out of character. Possible spoilers ahead, but anyone who can add 2+2 could have figured this out already. Emi has lost her job, so we all know where she'll end up working, Maou if he had kept some of his character progression could have taken the direct approach to informing Emi about a job at the Mag, Maou acts further out of character as when Emi applies for a job at the Mag he realises that would mean that they then have to work together and is horrified by that prospect, at this point you have to start questioning things, after all did he not consider this when he made his failed attempt to try and tell her about the job in the first place? If he was prepared for it then and willing to accept her working with him at that point why is it not okay now? All of this is an obvious attempt by the author to keep these characters in conflict with each other and at each others necks when much of Maou's growth and realising what he wants and what he would like to achieve, and where and how Emi fits into it was addressed in the last two books. So in summary, much of this book was filer with characters acting in frustrating ways.
