Description: I hadn't been planning on making Mexico my new home, but the little house on the sea was all that I had left. Intimate, honest and touching, this is the story of Deborah Rodriguez's often hilarious journey of self-discovery. Forced to flee her life in Afghanistan, she leaves behind her friends, her possessions and her two beloved businesses: a hair salon and a coffee shop. But life proves no easier 'back home'. After a year living in California where she teeters on the edge of sanity, Deborah makes a decision: she's going to get the old Deb back. So, at the age of forty-nine, she packs her life and her cat, Polly, into her Mini Cooper and heads south to a pretty seaside town in Mexico. Home is now an unassuming little house on Carnaval Street. If you liked Eat, Pray, Love you will love The House on Carnaval Street. Rodriguez's story speaks to every woman, mother, sister, wife - to anyone who has ever questioned their relationships, their place in the world and the choices that they've made.

Review: Another wonderful book from Debbie, it is lovely to read about what happened to her after she fled Afghanistan, her portrayal of PTSD is really good and I am sure there are many people now who will identify with this I love how she brings her sons into her story and eventually her grandchildren It is lovely to read about how she analises her past and what she comes up with, very entertaining Beautiful book, Debbie is an amazing writer Debbie's fans will love this addition to her other wonderful books

Review: As with the (to date) previous two reviewers, I too was very disappointed with this book. I almost gave up several times but decided to persevere in case something interesting happened. Sadly it didn’t. In Deborah Rodrigues’s previous two books “The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul” and “The Kabul Beauty School” she gave a wonderful insight into the lives of the people of Kabul and particularly the women for whom one felt a tremendous amount of sympathy and admiration. However, this book is self-indulgent and boring and I got the impression it was written more as therapy for the author than anything else. When an author starts talking about mystical experiences I feel I want to scream “enough already”. Well done Deborah on getting your life back together and yet again providing employment for people who would not necessarily find it themselves but please write something more interesting next time.
