Review: It took me 3 goes at this, maybe 4, across 8 years, to get started properly on this. The style can be hard to get into and one feels could have been edited. It is however the one book I credit with having turned my life around. I understood for the first time the craziness of my own family; and I understood the barriers in place that ever prevented me from being able to communicate that craziness to the world, however much I shouted. Whenever I read a newspaper feature that asks the interviewee who would they most like to meet from the past, I always think that for me it would be Stead, just to say "Thank you. Thank you for explaining my life." It is a gripping novel once you're in and many scenes and pages stay with me 15 years on from my first reading it. It shares much with Frazen's Freedom. I did eventually discover Engel's 'The Emotionally Abusive Relationship'; and from there Lawson's 'Understanding the Borderline Mother'. I credit these two books and Stead with my ability to name what went on; and to begin to move on.

Review: Extremely difficult to read. Got half way through and probably first book ever that I will not finish.a lot of gibberish, and the story line makes very little sense. Waste of my time unfortunately.
