Review: This is the first Sharon Bolton book that I have read, in fact, I have never heard of this author before. I stumbled across this book in the 99p Kindle section and once I saw all the amazing reviews I thought I’d give it a go in the hopes of having a great read and also discovering a new author with a big back catalogue I could smash through. The story follows six friends: Dan, Xav, Amber, Talitha, Megan & Felix as they go for one final joyride before getting their exam results and starting the next chapter of their lives. Unfortunately this final joyride ends in the death of a woman and her two young children. Megan steps up to take the blame for them all and is sent to prison but she tells them that they will each owe her a favour when she is released. We then see the group twenty years later when Megan is released and wants to cash in her favours. The plot for this book really intrigued me, it’s such an interesting idea but I'm sorry to say that I seem to be one of the only readers who wasn't hooked by this story. I think it started off well but quickly became boring, it just doesn’t really stand out among any other thrillers. I enjoyed seeing all the totally different paths the group’s lives had taken but I didn’t really bond with any of the characters and I actually found myself forgetting who was who at some points. The writing was good, as was the pace but the ending fell flat and it wasn’t suspenseful enough. It just felt average for me.
