Review: This being sixth entry in the light novel series, in chapter one, the day of the cultural festival has arrived, and Kyon visits the day's events. These include a fried noodle stall run by Mikuru and a live performance by a surprising band. The movie created in The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya is shown for the first time in chapter two. An old friend of Kyon's calls in chapter three to ask him about a girl he saw Kyon walking with months before. He is actually referring to Yuki, and tries to pursue her. In chapter four, the SOS Brigade finally begins the main event for the Snow Mountain retreat, a murder mystery. In chapter five, Mikuru asks Kyon to accompany her to buy tea leaves, but a secret motive may be involved. (Wiki reference) The first 2 chapters are covered in the anime but still fun to read. The other 3 chapters are also fun to read, chapter 4 "Where did the Cat Go?" is a great chapter that will keep you thinking. This is a great book and for any fan of the series this book would make a excellent addition to their collection.

Review: While the short story format is not my preferred format when it comes to the tales of Haruhi, I have to say that on the whole I did like this collection more than I thought I would. My favorite stories in this collection were probably Love at First Sight and The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina. The former features Nagato as the main character and I just think that there is so much more potential for her as a character that any little tidbit that can help shed some light on her is a good thing. In this one, Nagato does some heartbreaking. In the latter, we more or less see Mikuru and Kyon go out together alone... Not on a date, though. Not time travel, either. The first two stories are probably the weakest of the bunch, but they are fun to see if you have seen the anime. The second story The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00 was made into the first episode of the anime series. So you finally get to see how the movie was originally written. Or seen, if you can picture it in your head much as I did. Live Alive is about Haruhi playing with the band. The fourth story is a mystery so I won't say anything about it.
