Description: The Arabic alphabet has a fascinating history, one that is entwined with the development of culture and society in the Middle East. The authors trace the origins of the Arabic alphabet back to Aramaic, a descendant of Phoenecian, which itself gave rise to the Hebrew and Greek alphabets. The third title in the series that offers a primer for both general readers and students alike, A Brief Introduction to the Arabic Alphabet is illustrated and contains glossaries, indices, and suggestions for further reading.

Review: I haven't got through all of it yet but am very pleased with it so far. It is a brief introduction to a wholly alien alphabet but it's also adequately comprehensive for my needs, prior to studying Arabic.

Review: Nothing more than a series of pictures of arabic manuscripts with little discussion that was of value or merrit. The publishers were right in remaindering it. Despite the qualifications of the authors it shows little sign of scholarship. Not worthy of a single star Don't waste your money.
