Review: I have been meaning to buy this book for over a year now. I was apprehensive about its usefulness given that it is rarely spoken about in GP surgeries let alone amongst Urologists. I was diagnosed with Chronic Non-bacterial Prostatitis at 25 (let that sink in). The doctor's and urologists though well meaning, have been utterly hopeless and helpless. I knew there must be a psychosomatic cause behind what I have as I have always felt I'm a rather uptight person. This has obviously wrecked havoc on my pelvic floor muscles over the years. It's been a long journey but once I began to listen to my body, the healing began. I am 90% cured now having lived by a strict non-inflammatory diet, I exercise 5x a week (a huge gift from the disorder) and drink a lot more water. This is a fantastic book. One of the authors (Dr.Wise) suffered from Chronic Prostatitis for 22 years so he is acutely aware of the impact the diagnosis has on the minds of men and pelvic pain for women. The first two chapters were very refreshing to read as the authors go into length about how the current medical view towards pelvic pain is essentially redundant in light of their findings that pelvic pain occurs because of inflamed tissue in the pelvic region from years of subconciously lifting the pelvic floor during times of stress etc. There are many wonderful insights in the book but this paragraph really spoke to me "The old medical model views the body as composed of modualr parts that can be replaced when defective. This modular model seems to dismiss the notion that the body has intelligence and conciousness and that it can heal itself." Do your future self and buy this book. I'm sure it will greatly assist you in your journey towards self-healing. I have learnt a lot about myself on this journey and what I saw as a curse which threatened my sense of masculinity, I now see as a tremendous gift. I am the healthiest I have ever been and though symptoms sometimes (though rarely) re-appear I understand that the discomfort will pass. I know that this book will fully heal me. Why am I so sure? Because Dr Wise and Dr Anderson know what so many medical professionals don't that the body wants to heal, all you have to do is give it the right conditions. Indeed in the book they talk about how the "painful pelvic floor doe s not want to be in pain, yet it doesn't have the words to tell you what it needs to be out of pain." I hope this has helped you in your decision.

Review: There are good things about this book with regards to healing pelvic pain; internal massage, external massage, exercises, reframing your perspective, etc. HOWEVER, so much waffle - you get the point and it goes on and on for pages. Also seems to be aimed mostly at men. And doesn't mention getting yourself checked out for the many medical reasons you might have pelvic pain; low oestrogen atrophy, endometriosis, prolapse, etc - which are things you can get medical treatment for in addition to self help. There is good in this book but it needs totally rewriting and there are better books out there written by physios which are more concise, practical, balanced and helpful. Try Heal Pelvic Pain: The Proven Stretching, Strengthening, and Nutrition Program for Relieving Pain, Incontinence, I.B.S, and Other Symptoms Without Surgery by Amy Stein.
