Review: This fabulous discovery is just what I needed to top up my own treasure chest. The precious gems contained in this book will help anyone living or working with those affected by developmental trauma. A much-needed resource for those of us who may have experienced a sense of scarcity when it came to finding magical user-friendly tools. I have often felt excited by book titles over the years only to be overwhelmed or bored by the content (and then felt bad or stupid). This book offers an abundance of empowering information and this time I actually feel like I have struck gold. Thank you for all the printable pdf documents that come with the book, these worksheets are awesome! They are so helpful for the team around the child. I love the celebration of relationship and could instantly see they formed the foundation of the book. Our relationships are without a doubt our greatest treasure and often sadly buried so deeply that we give up the hunt. Big respect and much love whoooooooshing out to Karen Treisman for restoring my faith. That you JKP for bringing this little beauty into our lives and into my therapy room....this really is a play therapist's dream whooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Review: The media could not be loaded. The book is stuck into its cover the wrong way round… meaning I have to read it from the back, right to left.

  • Waterstones BodyDreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma

    Price: £34.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Winner of the NAAP 2019 Gradiva® Award! Winner of the IAJS Book Award for Best Book published in 2019! Marian Dunlea's Body Dreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: An Embodied Therapeutic Approach provides a theoretical and practical guide for working with early developmental trauma. This interdisciplinary approach explores the interconnection of body, mind and psyche, offering a masterful tool for restoring balance and healing developmental trauma. Body Dreaming is a somatically focused therapeutic method, drawing on the findings of neuroscience, analytical psychology, attachment theory and trauma therapy. In Part I, Dunlea defines Body Dreaming and its origins, placing it in the context of a dysregulated contemporary world. Part II explains how the brain works in relation to the Body Dreaming approach: providing an accessible outline of neuroscientific theory, structures and neuroanatomy in attunement, affect regulation, attachment patterns, transference and countertransference, and the resolution of trauma throughout the body. In Part III, through detailed transcripts from sessions with clients, Dunlea demonstrates the positive impact of Body Dreaming on attachment patterns and developmental trauma. This somatic approach complements and enhances psychobiological, developmental and psychoanalytic interventions. Body Dreaming restores balance to a dysregulated psyche and nervous system that activates our innate capacity for healing, changing our default response of fight, flight or freeze and creating new neural pathways. Dunlea's emphasis on attunement to build a restorative relationship with the sensing body creates a core sense of self, providing a secure base for healing developmental trauma. Innovative and practical, and with a foreword by Donald E. Kalsched, Body Dreamingin the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: An Embodied Therapeutic Approach will be essential reading for psychotherapists, analytical psychologists and therapists with a Jungian background, arts therapists, dance and movement therapists, and body workers interested in learning how to work with both body and psyche in their practices. Description: Children and young people in care who have been traumatized need a therapeutic environment where they can heal and which meets their emotional and developmental needs. This book provides a model of care for traumatized children and young people, based on theory and practice experience pioneered at the Lighthouse Foundation, Australia. The authors explain the impact of trauma on child development, drawing on psychodynamic, attachment and neurobiological trauma theories. The practical aspects of undertaking therapeutic care are then outlined, covering everything from forming therapeutic relationships to the importance of the home environment and daily routines. The book considers the totality of the child's experience at the individual, group, organization and community levels and argues that attention to all of these is essential if the child is to achieve wellness. Case material from both children and carers are used throughout to illustrate both the impact of trauma and how children have been helped to recovery through therapeutic care. This book will provide anyone caring for traumatized children and young people in a residential setting with both the understanding and the practical knowledge to help children recover. It will be essential reading for managers and decision-makers responsible for looked after children, child care workers such as residential and foster carers, youth workers, social workers, mental health workers and child welfare academics. The Trauma Play TM model, formerly known as Flexibly Sequential Play Therapy, equips practitioners to manage and adapt aspects of the play therapy place and process in order to help children tell their stories while draining the emotional toxicity from traumatic experiences. Chapters explore the neurobiological and developmental foundations of play therapy as well as strategies for navigating children's trauma in relation to specific aspects of play therapy such as sensory integration, metaphor, and humor. Enriched by a tapestry of illustrative case examples and tools for therapists, this is a vital new book for clinicians working at the intersection of play and children's trauma.
