Review: Oh my word. I am reeling from this book. I may have to cancel all plans for the next month so I can continue to reel. If I can't stop reeling, do I need to fill in a self-certification form at work? Cause of Absence: reeling. This is an astounding and brilliant book. It's gritty, shocking, provocative and vibrant, with a narrator whose voice stands out throughout without us ever really knowing her properly. Say it with me: "unreliable narrator." Reading this, I was most reminded of a really dark and disturbing film called Primal Fear, in which Richard Gere played a lawyer representing a choirboy accused of murder. Allegedly drew me in in all the same ways, messing with my perception and causing me to look for clues on every page. Look at the synopsis: obviously, it's quite a disturbing story. But, my life, what a compelling one.

Review: There are a range of emotions I felt for Mary, by the end I was simply lost for words. Her ordeal was heartbreaking, what she endured harrowing from every aspect of her life.
