Review: My children love Dragon Post by Emma Yarlett, so we were excited to read Beast Feast. The story follows a bright pink beast, who captures a little boy, whom he names ‘Dinner’. The Beast feels Dinner should be shared, so he writes lots of dinner party invites. The pages contain the replies, which your child can open themselves. ‘Dinner’ comes up with lots of inventive ways of stalling the Beast, but how long can he put him off? My children really enjoyed this book. I did wonder if they would be scared by the prospect of a little boy being eaten, but they took it in their stride. They enjoyed opening the letters, although unlike Dragon Post, these ones are folded and attached to the page, rather than being inside an envelope. For me personally, I felt this didn’t quite flow as well as Dragon Post, but since receiving it both of my children (aged 5 and 3) have requested we read it on numerous occasions, so I think it more than deserves a 4 out of 5 star rating. *With thanks to Walker Books for providing a review copy in return for an honest review.
