Review: This brings back memories. I remember I never used to read, but our school had a library hour (idk -- I remember to this day the setting but I don't remember the age, very young I suppose). This was the first book I picked up, ok I fell asleep in the library, but it was the first time I realised reading was a thing and it was good, no amazing. I didn't read anything again until I was maybe 15, I know, because I was terrible at English, but this one I remember to this day. I only started to read again because I was failing my exams and the English teacher, when I asked how can I improve, simply said read, which I did for the next 6 months (all horror, again I know, the naughty bits hehe, hey I was at that age-- I'll be honest, so cool hehe). He then accused me of cheating in an assignment lol, go figure, obviously he had zero faith in his own instructions (I didn't cheat-- first time I ever told a teacher off also hehe).

Review: Here's the deal. When my wife was ridding out her old stuff from her childhood she came across the sequel to this 'The Witches Revenge'. I think it'd been one of her favourite books of her childhood and I read it my son and understood why. It's a really great story with some visceral imagery and likable characters. Now I'm not even sure my wife had realised it was actually a sequel, but she'd never in fact read the original so I bought her this as something of a 'joke' present. She read it and really enjoyed it. I read it too! With my son, it's a light-hearted, fun fantasy affair. I think it's stood the test of time well. I don't think this has quite the same darkness of tone and sense of peril as the second book, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. It's a perfect 'read to your children' book for something like 6 to 7 year olds?
