Description: The complete Blackadder scripts by Richard Curtis, Ben Elton, Rowan Atkinson and John Lloyd. Twenty-six years ago, Edmund Blackadder made his first appearance on our screens. Comedy has never been the same since (nor indeed has history). Gathered here - in this twenty-sixth anniversary commemorative edition - are the complete scripts of Blackadder's adventures and, mostly, misadventures. Blackadder, Blackadder II, Blackadder the Third and Blackadder Goes Forth. Every word, every lie, every cunning plan and cock-up. From medieval nastiness, through Elizabethan and Regency glory, to the mud and sautéed rats of the First World War, Blackadder and his oafish underling Baldrick can be most definitely blamed for ruining England's reputation as a country with a great history. This historical record has been set down by Mr Richard Curtis, Mr Ben Elton, Mr Rowan Atkinson and Mr John Lloyd. Richard Curtis is the writer/director behind Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and The Boat That Rocked) and Ben Elton is the bestselling author and writer of The Young Ones, The Man From Auntie and The Thin Blue Line. The character of Blackadder was played by Rowan Atkinson, who is the star of the Mr Bean TV series and films, and Johnny English. The four Blackadder series, produced by John Lloyd, won numerous BAFT As and also an EMMY.

Review: Blackadder: the Whole Damn Dynasty , I've got to admit, it struck me as something to read just from the title alone. Primarily, this is just a book of all the scripts of all the episode - excluding the one-off special for the millennium, because that had't been made at the time. However, it deviates from being just a script book, into being something quite different by the fact that it fills in the gaps of all the Blackadder family members that we don't see, but are sometimes referenced in episodes. We find out how the line survived to when it did, and how each generation seemed further down the pecking scale than the one before, each story being told with the same humour you could expect from an episode proper All in all, the book makes for a great read. Somehow just reading through the scripts brings the voices of all these fantastic characters jumping back into your head, and you can't help but grin at some of the stage direction as well. In my opinion, it is a book that's well worth getting a copy for any fan of comedy in general. Also, if possible, can someone explain to be how "Goodbyeee" is somehow more poignant written down?

Description: They had a cunning plan. A few decades ago, three young grads from England's greatest universities - Oxford, Cambridge, and Hull (actually, Manchester) - came up with a historical comedy series. Few thought it would live long in the memory. Today, Blackadder is a timeless comic masterpiece, and its stars have gone on to glittering careers. The True History of the Black Adder is the first ever history of one of Britain's greatest and most unique sitcoms, from its medieval beginnings to its legendary tragic finale. Informed by exclusive - and hilarious - interviews with essential figures like Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Ben Elton, Stephen Fry, Brian Blessed and many more, this the definitive account of how a British institution came to be, as well as a fascinating look into how this classic comedy was almost very different - and a compendium of brilliantly funny anecdotes from a team of Britain's most celebrated comedians. British history is a patchwork of questionable stories, constantly rewritten, re-evaluated and ridiculed; final editorial control has always belonged to the winners. And nobody likes winners. At last, Blackadder enthusiasts can now uncover THE cunning plan, in all its hideous hilarity. Waterstones The True History of the Blackadder - shop the best deal online on thebookbug.co.uk

  • Waterstones The Amazing Test Match Crime

    Price: £9.99

Description: The best cricket novel ever written. Before 'Sandpapergate' there was The Amazing Test Match Crime. 'Cricket is the great narrative sport, and a close, hard-fought Test Match is the nearest any sport comes to the structure, rhythm and feel of a good novel. The opening is there, if someone is brave enough to take it.' Marcus Berkmann. England are due to play Australia Imperia (names have been changed for legal reasons) at the Oval, in the final Test of the summer. The series hangs in the balance when England's Captain and star player disappears without trace. A wonderful novel which reads like a cross between an episode of Blackadder and England, Their England.

Description: The true story of how Britain won the First World War. The popular view of the First World War remains that of BLACKADDER: incompetent generals sending brave soldiers to their deaths. Alan Clark quoted a German general's remark that the British soldiers were 'lions led by donkeys'. But he made it up. Indeed, many established 'facts' about 1914-18 turn out to be myths woven in the 1960s by young historians on the make. Gordon Corrigan's brilliant, witty history reveals how out of touch we have become with the soldiers of 1914-18. They simply would not recognize the way their generation is depicted on TV or in Pat Barker's novels. Laced with dry humour, this will overturn everything you thought you knew about Britain and the First World War. Gordon Corrigan reveals how the British embraced technology, and developed the weapons and tactics to break through the enemy trenches.
