Review: I did not enjoy this book very much, and I am surprised that it has garnered so many positive reviews. The plot is dull - I really am not sure what it was all about. None of the characters was that convincing. None of the flavour of the Loire Valley came across. But what I found both tedious and irritating was the author's need to make more or less every sentence 'funny'. The reality is that most of the humour is not humorous. It is laboured. I have given 2 stars because it is literate, if nothing else.
