Review: If you like Maisie Dobbs books you wil like this. They are a bit more lighthearted. But they do give a good story. Fine ensemble as well to help Kate in her cases.

Review: This is a very enjoyable, quick read. Kate Shackleton is engaged by an aristrocratic lady to trace her long-lost daughter but sudden death in Leeds intervenes. The combination of university dons,an organ grinder and his monkey, detour Kate from her investigation and she loses vital time.. In the ensuing mayhem there are more deaths and Kate does not escape unharmed. Despite the deaths there is room for a little more humour in this novel than in others in the series. Much of it can be attributed to the presence of the organ grinder's monkey. I thought the plot got lost a bit in the final chapters as things were brought to their conclusions and Kate switched back to her paying job. Nevertheless it was fun to read overall.
