Review: This book answered so many unanswered questions for me as to the why women are reluctant to exercise but more importantly the benefits and importance of exercise and playing sport. I sat in the tube to and from work nodding my head and smiling to myself as I agreed with so much of the book. Highlighter in hand, I confess my book is a sea of bright orange. It still saddens me how many schools have put the important of physical education not as a priority, it now depends on their budget. I have been exercising since secondary school including doing Athletics – shot put and javelin. I hated hockey on the cold windy pitch but loved playing netball. The media and social media has a lot to answer for, especially TV channels who like to glorify men’s sports yet women sports still have little airtime during normal viewing time. Women have outshone men in such great competitions like World Cup Football, Cricket and Rugby bringing home more medals than men, yet our achievements are not recongised as much as men. This book shines the light on women, even though we face many challenges we still want to play and exercise, not afraid of sweating either. Anna, busted the myths about exercise and playing sport. Women from ALL cultural backgrounds do play sport and exercise, they are not all skinny and supermodels (like myself) but many exercise and play sport for health, enjoyment, coming together and a to challenge themselves. Exercise has changed my life. There is no real excuse for women not doing some sort of exercise, from regular gentle walks to taking the plunge, preparing and running a marathon. As an exercise addict, I know the value to my mind, body, health, personal and career development it has played in making me the woman I am today. For the last 15+ yrs going to the gym and doing a combination of spinning, circuit training, weights and boxing training is just something I do 4 or 5 times a week. I never thought I was doing something unusual as a woman.

Review: I really enjoyed this book. It's an easy read and is a call to action. I feel that it is quite balanced for a feminist text, and really made me think twice about my attitude to sport, which is such a male dominated industry. I will certainly try to spend more time supporting female teams and sports after reading this.
