Review: Brilliant book!! We got this for my 6 year old (just turned 7) boy to encourage him to read and it was exactly what he needed! It’s a good step up from the first learning to read books as each “chapter” is essentially a self contained story and the best part is that it really engages him as it gives him a challenge to solve - each story has a bunch of clues to solve the case and the reader can figure this out for themselves (or try!) before turning to the back of the book to find out. Excellent for developing problem solving skills for young children. We have been doing it together for our son but for an older child or advanced reader they could probably read it and figure it out for themselves. It’s also a nice clean read, good values and morals and nothing that makes me cringe or that I feel would be a bad influence for children (unlike many other books around these days which I feel normalise bad attitudes, behaviour and opinions). The only slight disadvantage for us, being British, is that the book is written in US English so some spellings can be different to ours and come concepts and phrases that pertain to American life and culture. Could also be a good thing as it gives us a teaching opportunity for or children but if read by themselves may not be understood fully especially by a young child who is just finding his feet with reading.
