In the middle of the North Sea, between the UK and Denmark, lies the beautiful and rugged island nation of Doggerland. Review: What a great series this is. Doggerland - the land between UK & Europe that sank long ago, and this writer has set her gripping detective series in the remnants of Doggerland, in the present day.. I have read 1 & 2, and can't wait to start number 3, Great atmosphere, plot and writing. Highly recommended.

Review: I cannot really understand the plaudits for this book over and above many other similar books of this genre. I love reading and watching Scandi Noir. Apart from the story line and crime procedural I enjoy soaking in the atmosphere of the setting, everyday life, community and character of the people and so forth. Unfortunately, for me, the book lacks this - concentrating on descriptive detail, profiles of the people involved with flashbacks. But I get no feeling for the surroundings. Plenty of raw facts, obviously, but no sense or atmosphere of the environment surrounding them. It’s as if the author has written a book describing an imaginative film running through her mind. Many films are based on a book. This is a book as if written from a film! Sorry, but many Scandi Noir authors are better at this - knowing how to write more concisely and create atmosphere so the reader has a feeling for the people, country and community in which the book is based - while maintaining the main aspects of the story. That for me is the crux of Scandi Noir as a genre. I KNOW Doggerland is a made-up place but what is the point? I read this book, and have book 2 and the proposed third book on my read list. Will I read them? Perhaps. I give praise to anyone who can write a novel - so 2 stars. Plus another as her vocabulary and detailed description of things such as the inside the rooms of a house are brilliant. Another star for that.
