Review: Funny conversational pieces, a wide variety of characters who you can believe in and a happy ending. One to read for the pleasure of sitting down to read and take your mind off things.

Review: This must be one of Heyer's very early books. The plot is very simplistic, as are the characters. Nothing much happens, except for ludicrously short scrapes and a very tedious subplot with a hysterical, overwrought suitor. The two main characters are childish, immature, one-dimensional and quite annoying to those of us who appreciate more in-depth characterisation. Other reviewers have pointed out the husband's disturbing physical abuse - I think the author was trying to show that the characters are still bickering children, but that isn't an excuse. This is a 24-year man bullying a 16 year old innocent, and she is completely in his power as wife and orphan. I truly disliked this book - I suggest Frederica, Grand Sophy, Regency Buck or other later books. I bought this Used - Good Condition, and the book arrived promptly and in excellent condition from the supplier.

Description: My Autism Book is a beautifully illustrated picture book that helps parents to explain an autism diagnosis to their child in a sensitive, positive and accurate way. When a child is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), parents often feel overwhelmed and uncertain about how to communicate the diagnosis to their child. This book is designed to be read with the child as a simple introduction to their diagnosis. Written by a doctor and a children's author, the book is tailored precisely to the needs and experiences of the child with ASD aged 5-9. It explains what an autism diagnosis means and encourages an exploration of the child's likely strengths and differences using clear language that speaks directly to the child. The colourful pictures throughout show how the world looks from the child's perspective and the book ends with a summary checklist to encourage the child to record and discuss how autism affects them.

  • Waterstones The Child Code

    Price: £16.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: For the first time, The Child Code brings genetics out of the lab and onto the parent's lap, offering a smarter and much more effective way of parenting. Danielle Dick - a chaired professor of psychology and human and molecular genetics - makes the case with evidence that's clear and compelling: under normal conditions, the biggest factor influencing your child's outcome is, quite simply, the child - his or her unique genetic signature present at birth. Genetic predispositions shape temperament, the propensity toward impulsivity, self-regulation, sociability, fear, anxiety, addiction, and happiness. This book will give you the tools to understand your child from day 1- to crack the 'code' on what makes your child tick-and to tailor your parenting approach accordingly. By understanding the degree to which your child's behaviour is written into their genetic code, and the environment in which it's expressed, you will learn what will and what won't work in helping your child become their best selves, with a lot less stress all around: you can't change your child but you can be a better parent.
