Review: Cassie Morgan hates school. She hates the teachers, the other pupils, the food, and most of all, the hockey team. Seven years earlier, her mother, Rose, dropped her off at the dismal boarding school and disappeared from Cassie's life, leaving nothing but a key for her daughter to remember her by! After receiving devastating news, Cassie decides it's time for her to take control of her life, which means going to look for her mother even if she has no real idea where to start. Things don't go quite as she'd hoped however, and Cassie soon finds herself in the village of Hedgely staying with an aunt she didn't know existed. Add to this the startling news that Cassie, her mother, and aunt are all witches means life is about to take a very strange turn indeed but surely with magic at her fingertips finding Rose should be easy, shouldn't it? I loved this book, it ticked all the boxes as far as witches, faeries, and other mystical creatures were concerned as well as dropping Cassie into a quintessential English village which is actually anything but. As a middle grade level book the jeopardy is tempered slightly but is still there. The author has a wonderful imagination and the accompanying artwork is glorious with the illustrations adding another level to the reading experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this, recommend it for age 9+, and can't wait for book two to be released in early March.

Review: I absolutely loved this book. It has a beautiful cover that I love seeing in our living room! Every time I sat down to read it I was sucked in to a world that I really believed in. The descriptions of the hedge were so vivid and the detailed world building was wonderful.
