Review: I bought my first copy of Home Cooking many years ago. It is a lovely book filled with family recipes and the stories that surround them. A pleasure to read and to cook from. I have since then bought it for several friends, this purchase being the most recent. Each time I order it, I re-reread it and am never disappointed. A must for anyone who enjoys the art of cooking and eating.

Review: I bought this book having read the other online reviews. I have to say, it was a grave mistake. I found it cloying and patronising in the extreme, and was profoundly irritated by the faux friendly tone. I gave up about three quarters of the way through and sent it to a charity shop. There are actually very few recipes in the book: it is mostly anecdotes, none of which I found amusing or interesting. Indeed the only one that has stuck in my memory is the writer's inability to make a Pond Pudding, which did nothing to enhance her culinary credentials in my eyes.

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: A moving portrait of the landscape that shaped the life of Laurie Lee, the beloved author of Cider With Rosie 'Before I left the valley I thought everywhere was like this. Then I went away for 40 years and when I came back I realized that nowhere was like this.' Laurie Lee walked out of his childhood village one summer morning to travel the world, but he was always drawn back to his beloved Slad Valley, eventually returning to make it his home. In this portrait of his Cotswold home, Laurie Lee guides us through its landscapes, and shares memories of his village youth - from his favourite pub to winter skating on the pond, the church through the seasons, local legends, learning the violin and playing jazz records in the privy on a wind-up gramophone. Filled with wry humour and a love of place, Down in the Valley is a writer's tribute to the landscape that shaped him, and where he found peace.

Description: Tandoori Home Cooking is an approachable, vibrant and flavourful celebration of Indian tandoori cooking. In Tandoori Home Cooking, Maunika Gowardhan, bestselling author of Thali, takes you on a tour to share an explosion of tandoori flavours, spices, recipes and culinary heritage found across the streets and restaurants of India, with dishes that can be made in conventional ovens and grills in your home all year round. From Aslam Butter Chicken and Zafrani Paneer Tikka, along with Apple, Beetroot and Mooli Salad and Garlic and Ghee Naan, to Mango and Pistachio Kulfi Lollies and Jal Jeera, there is a dynamic selection of classic recipes, all of which can easily be created at home.
