Review: I bought this in prep for a theatre production we're seeing later in the summer. I wanted my daughter to know the story and characters before we went. What a joy it is! It's been many many years since I explored the River Bank and the delightfulness of the stories is wonderfully maintained in this edited version. Bright pictures accompany each page - not as beautiful as the original illustrations but appropriate for helping children to visualise the scene. My daughter is 4 and I didn't know how she would cope with the mass of text; she loves it! As an introduction to chapter books it's wonderful. I read a couple to her each night and she loves putting the attached ribbon in to mark the spot where we pick up the next night. We're on read through number 3 a week after receiving it. I have ordered a few more from the Ladybird Classics series to introduce her to the books of my childhood and to allow me the joy of rereading them.
