Author: C.Campbell

Rating: 5

Review: Hollis has a drawn on Jung’s ideas, filtered through his own personal and professional experiences as a psychiatrist, to provide a road map for thinking about the challenges of living a meaningful life. Easy to read (more so than some of his other books) and challenging and provocative in such a useful and supportive way.

Author: Cliff Fiscal

Rating: 1

Review: I bought this book in the hope of obtaining some objective and practical insights on life and aging. I have a scientific background and in retrospect I should have registered the mention of Jung and purchased something else. The basic premise (when you get past all the virtue signalling and white privilege guilt trips) appears to centre on the idea that we’re all potters, poets and painters underneath the stifling constrictions Imposed on us by our parents and our society. The author clearly has no idea about developments in evolutionary psychology and adheres to the premise central to virtually all those working from a psychodynamic perspective that, if we were to find our ‘true selves’, we’d all be good left wing liberals who despise Trump. Waste of time.

Description: Stoicism offers rationally grounded, proven psychological techniques for the gradual development of consistent self-mastery, and emotional detachment from those elements of the human condition that tend to cause the most pervasive and unsettling forms of fear, anxiety, and avoidable disquiet. In the essays in A Life Worth Living, William Ferraiolo examines what it means to incorporate Stoicism into 21st century life, adapting classical Stoic philosophy for the modern day. 'William Ferraiolo's new book represents an essential contribution to all who struggle with living a meaningful life.' Eldon Taylor, Ph. D, New York Times bestselling author of Choices and Illusions.
