Review: The blurb about this book really doesn’t even begin to describe this book which I think doesn’t really help when you start to read this book. First and foremost this isn’t really a romance. Yes there is a romance there but Cal, the hero of the hour, is really only one of many players in this story. He provides a safe place for Harriett to be both emotionally and physically and helps her through, and is a constant in the background throughout the book. But this isn’t a story about them or their relationship. In fact their relationship is grossly underwritten and feels almost pushed in at the end as an afterthought. Once you have that straight about this book then it becomes a better read. This is a story about a woman’s struggle to get out from under a controlling and coercive relationship, and it’s not the one you think when you start reading the book. Physically she gets out, but emotionally she is still there. It’s well written, informative, and you really feel yourself pushing her forward wanting her to get there. Yes there are funny moments, and I loved that it’s set in Leeds, so knew the areas where this is set. Lorna is a fabulous friend, Cal is a lovely guy, and this is a great read once you get over the fact it’s not necessarily what you were expecting. Bring on the next book please!
