Review: I was recommended this author and i like box sets like this where i get a trilogy of books - i`m used to that from the Sci-fi Author Neal Asher, who does a similar thing. Pretty books, each is a good 700 or so pages - so there is a lot of story here - all comes in a nice box. As to the story - i am very impressed. Fantasy literature can be a real victim to cliché, but Mistborn takes things like "magic" and comes up with a unique and thought provoking way of making it different and interesting. The twists are genuinely surprising and the foreshadowing is carefully crafted to reward you for thinking ahead. There are a lot of moments where subtle things in the writing are revealed to have a whole new meaning in light of new revelations in the plot. Also a lot of grit - there are real stakes here and a few times i had to stop reading so that i was mentally prepared for the horrific situations that the heroes get themselves into. It isnt a book series for the fainthearted - bad things happen to good people and there is no guarantee that any of the main characters get through unscathed or even alive. It doesnt pull its punches. Its the Dirty Dozen/ Rogue One of Fantasy, with a side order of Hellraiser and the Matrix.

Review: Honestly I've only knocked a star off because the box arrived damaged. Otherwise I highly recommend these books, especially the first of the trilogy, framing overthrowing a tyrannical empire as a heist was really different and I genuinely loved all of the characters.
