Review: I bought this book for my husband for Christmas so that he can read it to our grandchildren who are aged 3, 1 and 1. Although it is presented as a board book for babies, the 3 year old got the most out of it, asking for it to be read to him several times. The book was recommended to me by a friend who was also buying it for her husband. Both men are professors of organic chemistry and they also enjoyed the book's wit, especially the last page: "Now you know ORGANIC CHEMISTRY!"

Review: This concept just doesn't work. To get my five year-old to read it, I had to tell him that we'd been hired to check a book for babies to make sure everything in it was right. Otherwise, he was going to refuse to read a card-format book with 'for babies' written on the front. But some of the words were rather tricky for him to read: "combining", "medicines", "certain". I think expecting anyone younger to read it is expecting too much. So, what age is this book actually aimed at? Then how much about organic chemistry can you really fit onto 24 card faces each with one cartoon and 3-9 words per face? The choice as to what to include is all wrong at any level, but especially for a small child. There's no attempt to weave a story through it, there are no characters and so many missed opportunities. For example, there's a sketch of a methane molecule. The lead character (which the book doesn't have) ought to be farting on this page then kids would be in hysterics and learn something. Instead it's boring and the content flies past without reaching its target.
